In 2022, longtime roofer and solar professional Clayton Cowell and his wife Anne — Jim Roark’s stepdaughter — took the helm to continue the company’s legacy. Their leadership brought together Roark’s deep roots in solar energy with Clayton’s extensive roofing and construction background, creating a company uniquely positioned to deliver roof-safe solar installations that stand the test of time.
That same year, Roark expanded its service reach by acquiring Tidy Tiki Pool Service, strengthening its year-round pool maintenance and solar heating support. Today, Roark Solar and its sister division, Pools by Roark, proudly serve Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties with the same family values, honest communication, and craftsmanship that built the Roark name more than four decades ago.

Roark Solar was founded in 1978 by Jim Roark, a former physics instructor turned solar pioneer. Before starting the company, Jim helped launch Aquatherm Industries — America’s leading solar pool heating manufacturer — as one of its first employees in 1976. Within just two years, his leadership helped the company grow sales ten-fold.
Driven by family and a love for hands-on craftsmanship, Jim returned to Sarasota to found Roark Solar, becoming Florida’s longest-running Aquatherm dealer and setting the standard for quality solar installations across the Suncoast. Today, that same commitment to innovation and integrity continues under the leadership of Clayton and Anne Cowell, carrying the Roark legacy into a new generation.

Before acquiring the company in 2022, Clayton built a reputation across Florida as an award-winning roofing specialist and later served as an area representative for Tesla Solar Roof, where he refined his understanding of roof-integrated solar systems. Anne Cowell, CPO — General Manager
